Swedish Massage Techniques (125 hours)
A solid understanding of Swedish Massage techniques and proper application is established through historical aspects, effects and benefits, purpose and application of strokes, draping, oil application, therapist/client contact, self-care body mechanics and communication skills.
Anatomy (50 hours) & Physiology (25 hours) (75 hours)
Anatomy & Physiology concentrates on the structure and function of the human body. An emphasis is placed on the relationship between muscle, nerve and connective tissue. Students study joint types, terms for movement, the anatomy of a cell, tissue make-up and the various systems in the body. In addition, students study origin and insertion of muscles, muscle action, joint articulation and the muscle-skeletal system of the body. Students have some exposure to the types of disorders that occur in the body systems.
Health and Hygiene (20 hours)
Introduces health concerns and hygienic considerations for professional massage practice; contraindications for massage & universal precautions for body fluid pathogens.
Hydrotherapy (20 hours)
Includes thermotherapy and cryotherapy (the use of hot and cold - water, steam, packs and ice for therapy. Indications and contradictions, as well as understanding the responses to heat and cold applications are explored.
Business Practice and Professional Ethics (45 hours)
Emphasizes the effective way to communicate with clients and how to work professionally and comfortably with clients. Students formulate a business plan for a successful massage practice. Students learn business skills, career development and the vast opportunities of the industry. Ethical conduct, business plan development, insurance billing, employment possibilities, goal setting, promotion and ethical considerations are taught. Massage therapy laws and rules are studied and incorporated into case studies. Standards for professional ethics and business practices are explored.
Internship: Clinical (50 hours)
Internship provides the opportunity for students to schedule appointments, take brief health histories from their clients and conduct massages for members of the community. Payments & makeup work must be current before students begin Internship.
Massage Therapy Technique (75 hours)
The foundational techniques of Swedish Massage are expanded to include modalities for specific situations, including techniques for athletes, pregnancy, infants and children. Self-care for the therapist is included.
Kinesiology (50 hours)
Kinesiology is the study of the anatomy, physiology, & range of motion of the body.
Pathology (40 hours)
Pathology is the study of the nature of disease and its causes, processes, development and consequences. Students focus their studies on the diseases and infections commonly encountered by massage therapists. A holistic approach includes the psychological and emotional states of the client with specific conditions and disorders.

Our 500 hour program prepares students to practice massage in a variety of settings such as spas, clinics, chiropractor offices, hospitals, gyms, and wellness centers.
